What is Mediation?

Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution. A neutral third party (the mediator)  provides a safe space in which to facilitate discussion and negotiation between the parties to a dispute, with the aim of reaching a mutually acceptable agreement.

The process of mediation is both voluntary and confidential, and allows the parties to work towards a resolution outside of the formal court environment. Once a settlement is reached, it can be made an order of court.

No legal representation is necessary during mediation. The mediator is a qualified, accredited professional with expertise in relevant areas of law, negotiation techniques and psychology.
